My name is Luke. I'm a retired teacher who has spent over 33 years in the classroom, primarily with 6th-8th grade students. I am a member of ICE, Illinois Computing Educators, and have served on the planning committee for the ICE Conference, formerly IL-TCE, for the last several years, helping to recruit and coordinate tech staff volunteers for the conference, and working with Web 2.0 resources for conference communications. I have been a frequent presenter at ICE and have also presented at conferences around the midwest, southeast and in Canada. I received my B.A. from North Park University in Chicago and M.Ed. from National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois. My sessions, workshops and resources target the teachers who may have a limited “techie” background and just want to become more comfortable with the computer technology they’re using. Very few school districts provide this type of staff development, and pursuing it on one’s own can be both time-consuming and expensive. I like to encourage teachers to explore the tech, tinker under the hood and raise their overall comfort level. If they’re more comfortable with the technology, they’re more likely to make better use of it, and in the long run, everyone benefits.
