Born in Kassala, a small town in Sudan, my parents shifted to India. I have been brought up in the city called Rajkot in State of Gujarat, India. Being a Gujarati, Entrepreneurship and Management runs in my blood and hence I pursued my Masters in Business Administration (Marketing) , Masters in Commerce ( Management) and Diploma in Software Engineering and joined a dotcom company as a Marketing Manager.
It came as a rude shock to many – when I decided to quit my Marketing Manager’s job to become a Computer Instructor who will be teaching across Grade 1-12. I have been working as an educator since 1999 and I bet – not a single day of my life have I ever regretted the decision. I believe in the saying by Confucius, “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” One of my Social Entrepreneurship Project Galaxy Bazaar has been built for providing all entrepreneurial skills along with 21st century skills to the students. The net profits generated from the Bazaar is used to provide free quality education to girls from underprivileged section of the community. Starting with a humble net profit of $ 133 in 2005 – the project has raised more than $1,00,000 till 2015 and I tried to reach out to more than 1500 students. The project has been recognized by Forbes, ShareIndia, UNESCO, NDTV, EdTechReview etc. I consider myself a Globally Connected Educator and probably one of the most decorated educators having received two Presidential Awards for Teachers, the Outstanding Young Educator Award (ASCD), the Outstanding Teacher Award (ISTE), the HP EdTech Innovator Award (HP-NMC), the Butler and Cooley Excellence in Teaching Award (TMA), the Good Samaritan Award (Forbes), the Innovative Teacher (Teach A Man To Fish foundation), the Harnessing Creativity Award (tGELF), the Microsoft Expert Educator, Google Certified Teacher, Innovation in Education (GESS Education, UAE), the Guruvar Outstanding Indian Teacher Award, the Derozio Award for Education and Human Enrichment, and the Bammy Educator’s Choice for Higher Secondary Teacher Award. I was also shortlisted to the cohort of Top 50 teacher for 1 Million Dollar Global Teacher Prize Award by Varkey Foundation, the 21st Century Teacher (21CL) and Wharton Reimagine Education Award.
