My name is Anabel Gonzalez and I am a secondary ESL teacher in Mooresville, North Carolina. I began my teaching career as a Business Education teacher in 1996 and transitioned into the ESL field in January 2012. I have a master’s degree in instructional technology and completed additional postgraduate work in curriculum and instruction. In addition to classroom teaching, I also have experience in instructional technology training and coaching.
I love to teach because I love to learn and because I love young people. I especially love using technology to enhance learning and to connect with others beyond our local area. I am blessed to be a part of a dynamic, 1:1 laptop school district where technology is used seamlessly and purposefully to drive academic excellence, as well as to differentiate, personalize and tear down classroom walls. I love being able to travel and meet people from around the world without leaving home. In my role I wear many hats. To my students, I am a guidance counselor, academic advisor, case manager, translator, personal technology trainer, motivator and above all, advocate. To my fellow teachers, I am an ESL instructional coach, sharing ideas and strategies to help them reach ELLs in their classes. Like many of my students, I didn’t speak English until I entered Kindergarten and am fully bilingual (English/Spanish). My personal experience and family background have given me a keen understanding of language acquisition and cultural diversity. In addition to ESL, my teaching licenses include Instructional Technology Specialist, Curriculum Specialist, Vocational Business Education, Reading (K-12) and Elementary Education. Aside from English language learners and language acquisition, I am passionately interested in expanding conversations about multiculturalism, digital citizenship, growth mindset, and global connections. I believe we have the responsibility to help ready our learners for an ever-changing, technology-rich global marketplace. We are strategically positioned to help create the future!
